Things to do in Bath

There are a many ways to occupy your time in Bath whatever the weather. Shopping, eating, and drinking are always popular, but there is much more besides.

Firstly, a pecularity of Bath - It tends to be noticeably quieter when the weather is good, so try to visit when the sun shines.

The Roman Baths are really worth seeing, though they can get crowded. Incidentally, residents of Bath can visit the Baths for free. The Pump Room is next door, and anyone can have a look for nothing, though it is worth treating yourself to tea to really appreciate the sumptious surroundings.

Bath Abbey is another central attraction, and one of the few really old buildings in Bath, construction of the present building having started in 1499.

There are a number of excellent museums in Bath. These include the Holburne of Menstrie Museum, the Museum of East Asian Art, and the William Herschel Museum.

It is also a great place to get married, as for example Zoe Ball and Fat Boy Slim did in 1999.

There is plenty of street entertainment all year round in Bath, ranging from bagpipes to the famous semi-naked acrobats in the Abbey Churchyard.

More properly the Thermae Bath Spa, it offers a roof-top swimming pool with staggering views and a range of spa treatments.

Theatre Royal Bath

The Theatre Royal

One of the oldest working theatres in the country. High-quality productions, often pre-West End. Very pretty interior. As well as the Main House, there is also the Ustinov Studio, and the Egg young people's theatre.

The Holburne of Menstrie Museum

The Holburne of Menstrie Museum

Provides the backdrop for Great Pulteney Street. Fine building and interesting collection of miniatures, paintings, furniture, silver, porcelain, etc. Good temporary exhibitions, and great tea room.
