This is Search Bath
The idea of this site is to provide recommendations from the local Bathonians on what to do, and where to stay, eat, and drink in Bath.
So often when you look for something like accommodation via a search engine such as Google you end up with inappropriate computer-generated lists. This is compounded by Bath being called what it is, as a whole raft of unwelcome plumbing-related sites also pop up.
The aim is to put this right in a small way with honest information and genuine recommendations from people that live in the City without undue influence from advertising revenue.
The City of Bath
It is a wonderful place to live and work. Good looking buildings in a riverside setting surrounded by hills. Loads of history. Nice people, great restaurants, splendid pubs. Lots to do. Very accessible sport, especially cricket and rugby. Legendary shopping. Plenty of nice places to stay. Is there a down side? Yes. Road vehicles are the natural enemy of Bath. Traffic is heavy, which is not helped by unimaginative routing of through traffic, underused bus lanes, the infamous bus gate and traffic 'calming'. Parking is usually difficult and the parking wardens are efficient.
Assistance for the visitor
Bathonians know where the good stuff is to be found. We hope to pass on this subjective, but hopefully useful information for our visitors, covering such things as accommodation, restaurants, pubs, shopping and things to do.
Regular events
Many people just come for the sights or the shopping, but Bath hosts many regular events.
The Bath International Music Festival is held in May and is one of the largest. Others includes the Mozartfest (November), the Bath Literature Festival (March), Bath Fringe (May/June), The Bath International Guitar Festival, and the Bath Film Festival (October/November).
The Bath and West Agricultural Show is held around the end of May every year at the Shepton Mallet Showground, and the little-known but hugely enjoyable Frome Cheese Show occurs for one day only in September.
There are numerous craft and antique fairs held in and around Bath. Slightly further afield there is the Cotswold Craft Market held on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month in Cirencester. Continental markets appear from time to time in Queen Square. There is a regular Farmer's Market in Green Park Station (every other Saturday). Just before Christmas a large Christmas Market pops up around the Abbey.
Sport
Bath is famous for Bath Rugby Club, however there is also football in the shape of Bath City FC, and a number of cricket teams such as Bath Cricket Club and Lansdown Cricket Club, both of which have lovely grounds and are great places to spend a summers afternoon. Team Bath, based at the University also cater for a wide range of sports at all levels.
The Bath Half Marathon is held every year in the spring.
